Pepcid is in a group of drugs called histamine-2 blockers. It works by decreasing the amount of acid the stomach produces. Pepcid is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It also treats conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid.

Common Uses:
It is also used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), conditions that cause increased acid secretion, and esophagitis. It reduces stomach acid by blocking one of the chemicals (histamine) that stimulates the release of acid into the stomach.
How to use:
Use Pepcid as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.Take Pepcid by mouth with or without food. Take Pepcid at least 2 hours before or after taking cephalosporins (eg, cephalexin), itraconazole, or ketoconazole.
Warning and Precautions:
Pepcid is to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed. Do not share it with other people. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. Some medical conditions may interact with Pepcid . Important safety information:

Notify your doctor if you have any symptoms of a bleeding ulcer, such as black, tarry stools or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. Lab tests, including liver function, kidney function, and complete blood cell count, may be performed while you use Pepcid . These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. Use Pepcid with caution in the elderly; they may be more sensitive to its effects. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Do not use Pepcid if you are pregnant. Avoid becoming pregnant while you are taking it. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor right away. Pepcid is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Pepcid .

Overdose:

Missed Dose:
If you miss a dose of Pepcid , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Do not use this medicine:
If you are allergic to any ingredient in Pepcid or other acid reducers (H2 blockers), contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Storage conditions:
Pepcid should be kept away from heat, direct light, water, moisture at a room temperature (approximately 23 degrees C ). The medicine should be kept in a place unreachable for children.
