Common Uses
Cefixime is a half synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. It belongs to a class of medications called cephalosporin antibiotics of the third generation for local use. Cefixime is used to treat various types of infections which were caused by bacteria. It is especially effective in asthma attack treatment.

How to Take
Before start taking any new medicine please consult with a doctor. Usually Cefixime is taken one time a day, with plenty of water. For adults and teenagers with body mass more than 50 kg recommended dose is 400 mg one time a day (or 200 mg two times a day). The duration of the treatment should be determined by the doctor.  

Warning and Precautions
Do not take Cefixime if you have any allergic reaction to antibiotics (especially penicillin), such as Cedax, Ceftin, Cefzil, Duricef, Fortaz, Keflex, Omnicef, Spectracef and others.
Do not take any medicines without consultation with your doctor especially if you have a history of stomach or intestinal disease, kidney disorder or you suffer from nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. It is important to note that Cefixime may cause false urine-sugar test results, if you are a diabetic. Please follow your doctor’s instructions in taking Cefixime.
While using Cefixime for some period and your symptoms do not improve, notify your doctor immediately. 

Important
If you become pregnant or going to be, contact your doctor. Your doctor discussed with you all risks and benefits of using Cefixime while you are pregnant. But tests on mice did not show any changes in foetus. It should not be used during breast feeding. The doctor will give you additional information.

Missed Dose
If your doctor gave you strict instructions not to miss dose and if you missed one take the missed dose as soon as you remembered. If it is time for your next dose, skip it and continue taking you medicine regularly. Do not double the medicine. It can cause severe side effects.

Overdose
Almost any medicine taking in excess doses without consultation with your doctor can cause an overdose. Mild symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, upper abdominal pain, diarrhea or blood in the urine. If you suspect an overdose contact your emergency room immediately.

Storage
Cefixime should be stored at room temperature in a container it comes in. Protect from heat, sun light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep away from pets and children.

Possible Side Effects
Any of the medicine can cause side effects. If the side effects occur seek medical attention or consult with your doctor for more information. Anyway such common side effects may bother you:  fever, sore throat, numbness or tingly feeling, pain in joints with a severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash. Seek medical attention if any of these side effects occur: fast or pounding heartbeats, pain in chest, shortness of breath, severe allergic reaction.
